A delegation from the international community led by the United Nations Special Representative to Somalia James Swan arrived in Kismayo today amid political tension in the Jubbaland regional state.
According to reports, the delegation led by James Swan will hold meetings with the outgoing Jubbaland president, Ahmed Madobe, the state’s electoral commission and opposition candidates.
The reports add that Mr James Swan and his delegation will make efforts to resolve the political crisis and create an electoral process with a conducive environment for elections to be held.
The international community is concerned that the situation in Kismayo and the rival political movements there could lead to chaos and violence.
The UN envoy’s visit will be his second to the southern port city of Kismayo.
