Two explosions were heard in the central Somalia town of Dusamareb in Galgadud region on Sunday morning, residents have said.
The first blast was a suicide bomber who targeted a popular tea shop, close to a security checkpoint and army camp in the town, killing the suicide bomber and wounding several people who were near the scene of the attack when the bomber detonated his explosive device vest.
“A suicide bomber attempted to enter Hiro-Inji, the command centre of Ahlu Sunnah Wal Jama’ah which is very close to the tea shop,” a resident told Somaliaffairs.
Only the suicide bomber has been confirmed dead and at least three civilians wounded in first attack.
Ahlu Sunnah Wal Jama’ah, a moderate Islamist organisation that liberated parts of Galgadud region from Al-Shabaab fighters, has been the target of the militant group.
The second blast which occurred in the town was said to be a landmine explosion near the scene of the first blast which the security forces successfully detonated, sources said.
Galmudug authorities are yet to comment on the Sunday morning blasts in Dusamareb town.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks, the Al-Qaeda-linked group, Al-Shabaab has carried out similar attacks in past.
