Thousands line up along Kismayu roads to welcome PM Kheyre

KISMAYU—The leadership of Jubbaland and residents of the port city of Kismayu have today welcomed the Prime Minister of Somalia in his second visit since 2017.

In an unprecedented move, thousands of people lined up along the road to cheer the Premier’s visit while chanting words to express their pleasure.

The president of Jubbaland, Ahmed Madobe welcomed Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheyre at the Kismayu airport VIP lounge where they held a joint press conference.

From the airport, Kheyre and his entourage headed for the city center accompanied by Madobe and top Jubbaland officials.

Kheyre seemed mesmerized by the welcome and he set out shaking hands with the locals.

“I thank you for welcoming me in your numbers. I’m feeling home and I will surely tell this to the President (Farmajo) when I return to Mogadishu,” Kheyre said.

He stated that his visit was part of a bid to harmonize relations with regional states, adding that the federal cabinet will work closely with the Jubbaland officials so that, “We could all read from the same script,”
