South West State President Abdiasis Hassan Mohamed Laftagaren has arrived in the capital Mogadishu with a delegation from Baidoa.
He was received at the Aden Adde International Airport by members of the country’s caretaker government as well as legislators from both houses of the federal parliament.
His trip is believed to be related to ongoing discussions on the upcoming summit in Dusamareb between federal government and regional state leaders.
Presidents of the Galmudug and Hirshabelle states are also in the city and have been holding meetings with top federal government leaders.
All three regional leaders are believed to be allies of the federal government, which has been feuding with both the Puntland and Jubbaland regional states, although those differences may have been bridged in recent discussions in Dusamareb.
The regional leaders’ presence in Mogadishu also coincides with an ongoing scramble to fill the role of Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire, who was impeached by parliament on 25 July.
