Jubbaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam, also known as Ahmed Madobe, and delegation have arrived in Bosaso city of Puntland for a three-day official visit.
They were received at the airport by the Puntland President Sa’id Abdullahi Deni, and the two leaders are expected to discuss the political situation in the country as well as preparations for the 2020/21 general elections at the Presidential House of Bosaso.
This will be Madobe’s first trip to Puntland since his re-election for a third term in August last year following a controversial electoral process.
The federal government of Somalia remains opposed to Madobe’s leadership, after it rejected his return to power, and the administration in Kismayo has repeatedly accused President Mohamed Farmajo’s government of continuous meddling in the affairs of Jubbaland.
Puntland, which had sided with Madobe in the row with the federal government, maintains very close cooperation with the Jubbaland leader and has itself tense relations with the federal government.
The two leaders are therefore expected to make some demands of Mogadishu after their meeting, especially in regards to the Jubbaland dispute as well as the 2020 elections.
