Somalia’s Jubbaland, Puntland boycott Dusamareb 3 Conference as forum kicks off

The Dusamareb 3 Conference between the leaders of the federal government and heads of regional administrations in the country has officially opened last evening in the Galmudug state capital, Dusamareb.

This announcement was made by the president of Galmudug regional state, Ahmed Abdi Kariye Qoor Qoor, who declared that the meeting was opened by President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.

“Today, we have opened the Dhusamareb 3 Conference and discussed the electoral technical committees’proposal. The leaders attending the conference have agreed on some issues on elections to be held in the country,” Qoor Qoor said.

“As of now, participants in the conference include the president of the republic, the president of South West state, the president of Hirshabelle state and the governor of Banadir region,” he added.

The Galmudug leader pointed out that the leaders have already begun to discuss the model of election the country will use in the upcoming polls.

Meanwhile, the leaders of Jubbaland and Puntland regional states have refused to attend the conference and accused President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo of breaching the outcomes of Dusamareb 1 and Dusamareb 2 Conferences.

Puntland said in a statement that it would only attend the Dusamareb 3 Conference if the president appoints a new prime minister and if international diplomats attend the meeting as guarantors.

For its part, Jubbaland accused President Farmajo of disregarding the agreements reached in Dusamareb 1 and Dusamareb 2 conferences by dismissing the prime minister and failing to appoint a new one, violating the agreement with Jubbaland leader on non-interference in its affairs among other violations.

Jubbaland called on the international community to intervene and help Somalis in holding an all-inclusive Dusamareb 3 Conference until an agreement is reached.
