Somalia: Puntland and Jubbaland leaders leave Mogadishu

The presidents of Puntland and Jubbaland met at Halane Camp with representatives of the international community-based in Mogadishu.

Representatives of the European Union, the United Nations, the African Union and the ambassadors of the United States, and the United Kingdom discussed the latest developments in Somalia’s politics, particularly a law passed by the lower house of parliament on Monday that extended the government’s mandate for two more years.

Sources close to the presidents of Puntland and Jubbaland said they had informed representatives of the international community about intervening in the political turmoil to resolve electoral issues and save the country from political violence.

The presidents of the two regional administrations, who have been in Mogadishu since March, have returned to their respective capitals of Garowe and Kismayo.
