Somalia: Al-Shabaab attack in Middle Shabelle leaves at least one dead

Al-Shabaab militants on Sunday attacked Rage Elle town in the Middle Shabelle region. The militants reportedly targeted a house in the city, which was said to be the residence of Ahmed Jilcane, the town’s traditional chief elder.

Residents said the militants abducted Traditional Chief Jilcane. However, al-Shabaab said in a statement that it had killed Jilcane. It accused him of being an official who worked closely with the Somali government.

Al-Shabaab also claimed to have burned two vehicles belonging to Jilcane.

Authorities in Rage Elle District have not commented on the incident.

Al-Shabaab militants have been carrying out attacks in Raga Elle and other districts in the Middle Shabelle.
