Somali Sufi group commander defects to army

Reports say that the commander of fighters from the moderate Islamist group Ahlu Sunnah wal jama’ah in Guriel town, central Somalia, has defected to Somali government soldiers.

Commander Abdidahir Roble Adde held an hours long meeting with the commander of the 15th Brigade of the army, Gen Masudud Mohamed Warsame, finally agreeing to merge his fighters with those of the federal government.

After the agreement, Adde arrived in Dhusomareb town, the interim capital of the Galmudug regional state, last night. He was welcomed to the town by government forces.

There has been no reaction from Ahlu Sunnah to this development so far.
