Several Somali presidential candidates returned to the capital, Mogadishu, today in preparation for the upcoming election which will be held in the country between December 2020 and February 2021.
Presidential candidates Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame, Hassan Ali Kheyre, Dahir Gelle, Abdiqadir Osoble and Hussein Abdi Halane separately landed at the Adan Aadde International Airport in Mogadishu and were welcomed by their supporters and politicians.
“I returned to Mogadishu today. I thank the friends and supporters who accorded me a very warm welcome. A lot of important work ahead of us in the coming days,” tweeted Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame, presidential candidate and leader of the opposition Wadajir Party.
The opposition presidential candidates, who have earlier voiced their rejection of the electoral committees appointed by the federal government, are expected to reiterate their demand for a neutral poll body to oversee a fair and free election in 8 February 2021.
