Somali presidential candidates hold meeting with parliament speaker

The Speaker of Somalia’s Lower House Speaker, Mohamed Mursal Sheikh Abdirahman and his first deputy, Abdiweli Sheikh Ibrahim Mudey, this evening held talks with the presidential candidates meeting in the capital, Mogadishu, for the last three days.

Speaker Mohamed Mursal and the opposition presidential candidates discussed the upcoming elections and the obstacles facing the electoral process including accusations against the government of appointing its supporters to the recently-formed electoral bodies.

Earlier today, the speaker of the Upper House of Parliament, Abdi Hashi Abdullahi, also joined the presidential candidates’ conference.

Speaker Abdi Hashi Abdullahi backed the presidential aspirants in their demand for the govrernment to withdraw civil servants and NISA members who were allegedly appointed to the electoral bodies.
