Somali president arrives in Eritrean capital for unannounced visit

Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has arrived in the Eritrean capital, Asmara, for an unannounced official visit where he is expected to hold talks with his Eritrean counterpart, Isaiyas Afwerki.

“The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Mohammed A. Mohammed, arrived in Asmara in mid-morning hours today for 2-day working visit. President Mohammed & his delegation were accorded warm welcome by President Isaias Afwerki on arrival at Asmara International Airport,” Yemene Gebre Meskel, Eritrea’s information minister, said in a tweet.

Gebre Meskel also posted photos of President Afwerki welcoming his Somalia counterpart and the two leaders seated for talks.

President Farmajo on Saturday attended the signing ceremony of a peace agreement between the Sudanese government and rebel groups in the South Sudanese capital, Juba.
