Somali police arrest suspect in rape, murder of teenager

The Somali police have arrested a man suspected of involvement in the rape and murder of Hamdi Mohamed Farah, 19 years, in Waberi district of the capital, Mogadishu, last week.

Deputy Police Commissioner Gen Zakiya Hussein said that Mohamed Ibrahim Osman, 24, was arrested by police in Adado town, Galmudug state, where he fled to after the crime.

Gen Zakiya thanked the residents of Adado who cooperated with the police and provided them with the information that led to the arrest of the suspect.

Police had earlier announced the arrest of 11 suspects over the gruesome rape and murder of the teenager.

The rape and murder of Hamdi sparked outrage inside and outside the country with calls on the government to take action following increase of rape and murder cases in different parts of the country
