Somali party expels top official over remarks on Ethiopian troops

Somalia’s Himilo Qaran Party, headed by former President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, has expelled its secretary-general, MP Abdihakim Maalim Ahmed.

The party’s Executive Committee removed Abdihakim as secretary-general of Himilo Qaran and annulled his membership over remarks by the lawmaker that there were no Ethiopian troops in the Galmudug state capital, Dusamareb, other than those under the African Union troops, AMISOM.

The remarks contradicted a previous statement by the party which accused Ethiopia of interfering in the internal affairs of Somalia and condemned the presence of their troops in Dusamareb.

Commenting on his expulsion, MP Abdihakim said he has resigned from his position and left the party over differences in opinion with officials of the party on Galmudug politics.

The MP said he supports the federal government’s efforts in forming an inclusive government in Galmudug regional state.
