Somali party accuses government of promoting killer security officers

A Somali opposition leader has accused the government of promoting killer security officers instead of holding them responsible for the crimes they committed in the past.

In a statement, Wadajir Party Leader Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame accused the government of awarding the rank of Brigadier-General to a police commander he accused of killing five soldiers at the Wadajir Party headquarters in Mogadishu on 17th July 2017.

“The Somali nation knows that the young man who was promoted last night to the rank of Brigadier-General has committed a massacre at the Wadajir Party headquarters where he killed five soldiers from the armed forces,” Warsame said in the statement.

“This is a clear indication that those who awarded him the promotion and those who gave them the orders from above are his partners in crime,” he added.

Warsame pointed out that by such actions, President Farmajo’s government is declaring to the Somali people its disrespect for law and state institutions and its official’s lack of conscience and humanity.

The Wadajir Party leader said that the families of the slain young officers would ultimately get justice.
