Two major opposition political parties in Somalia have welcomed the newly-elected Jubbaland state parliament. Members of the new state parliament were sworn in today in the southern port city of Kismayo.
UPD political party, led by former Somali President Hassan Shiekh Mohamud and Wadajir Party, led by prominent politician and fierce government critic, Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame, have congratulated the newly elected 73 Jubbaland state lawmakers.
In a statement, UPD party said that the Jubbaland parliament election was successful and described the elections held in Kismayo city as free.
For its part, the Wadajir party welcomed the the election of regional lawmakers and pointed out that it was a free and fair exercise.
Opposition candidates have boycotted the second parliament of Jubbaland state whose members were sworn in today in Kismayo city.
