Somali MPs land in Kismayo to express support for new state assembly

A group of members of the Federal Parliament today landed in Kismayo, the headquarters of the Jubbaland state following the swearing in of the new state assembly on Tuesday (15th August).

The lawmakers arrived in Kismayo in what is seen as a show of confidence in the new state parliament.

The visit by the legislators follows the blessing of the new assembly by opposition leaders among them UPD party chairman and former President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Leader of Himilo Party, Wadajir Party Leader Abdirahman Abdishakur, among others.

The Jubbaland Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission today amended the election schedule, with the Jubbaland state’s presidential election to be held on 19th August.
