Somali minister survives roadside bomb attack in Gedo region

Somalia’s Acting Education Minister Abdullahi Godah Barre has escaped unhurt after a roadside bomb exploded on a convoy of vehicles transporting a delegation he was leading between Dollo and Beled Hawo towns in Gedo region, southwestern Somalia.

Reports indicate that several officials accompanying the minister, including an MP, were slighted injured after a roadside bomb exploded on the convoy, destroying some vehicles.

The minister and his delegation were reportedly on a tour of the region to launch government projects.

Federal government forces took over control of Gedo region a few months ago after driving out forces loyal to Jubbaland leader Ahmed Madobe from the main towns in the region.

The militant group Al-Shabaab also controls some rural areas of the region that also borders Kenya and Ethiopia.
