Somali military court jails man for life for collaborating with Al-Shabaab

A military court in the southwestern Somalia town of Beled Hawo has sentenced a man to life in prison after convicting him of charges including belonging the militant group Al-Shabaab and espionage.

The Somali military court, which held its sittings in Beled Hawo, Gedo region, sentenced Farhan Mohamud Hassan to life in prison for collaborating with Al-Shabaab and passing on to them sensitive information on the army and security forces in the region.

Mr Hassan reportedly surrendered to the security forces a few days ago who then handed him over to the military judicial authorities.

Col Hassan Ali Nur Shute, head of the armed forces’ court, read out the ruling, announcing Hassan has a month to appeal against the sentence.
