A delegation from the regional bloc IGAD, who have been in the port city of Kismayo for the last few days to observe the Jubbaland electoral process, today met with the members of both Houses of the Somalia Parliament elected from Jubbaland region.
The delegation, led by the IGAD envoy for Somalia Mohamed Guyo, discussed with the lawmakers how to hold free and fair elections in Jubbaland in accordance with the Jubbaland laws.
The lawmakers told the delegation that they were satisfied with the way things were going, adding that they expected the election committee to hold the elections smoothly.
According to a press release, the lawmakers criticized what they described as flagrant attempts by the federal government to interfere in the Jubbaland elections and said Mogadishu would be held responsible for any consequences.
The lawmakers told the IGAD delegation that the people of Jubbaland were united and were against anything that would disrupt the election process and take them to what they called the dark days.
