Somali journalists group condemns six month jailing of Goobjoog editor

Federation of Somali journalists (FESOJ) has condemned the “illegal” sentencing of Goobjoog news editor Abdiasis Gurbiye.

The federal said the ruling by the court of Banadir, which sentenced Gurbiye to six months in Jail, was political in nature, noting that the prosecution had changed the charges against the journalist three times.

The court had previously banned the journalists from writing or broadcasting any news programs during the four months he was out of jail on bail, a statement from FESOJ said.

It added that the federation will appeal the ruling as soon as possible.
