A Somali government soldier this morning shot and killed a young man at the Sinai intersection in the capital, Mogadishu.
The young man named Mohamed Abukar Turyare was a cousin of the former Somalia intelligence chief, Gen Abdirahman Mohamed Turyare.
He was reportedly shot and killed by a soldier this morning as he was seeing off a relative travelling out of Mogadishu.
Gen Turyare mourned his cousin in a Facebook post, saying he was deeply shocked by his unjust killing.
“I feel as if I have lost my first born or even worse. May Allah have mercy on my brother Mohamed Abukar Turyare who was unjustly killed by government forces,” Gen Turyare said in the post.
Eyewitnesses said that the soldier who shot and killed Mohamed fled the crime scene while the body of the deceased was taken to the CID headquarters for further investigations.
