President of Galmudug regional state of Somalia has announced that he will not be seeking re-election for a second term.
In a statement, President Ahmed Duale Gelle Haf accused the federal government of derailing any progress he would have made during his two years in office.
Haf recently backed down from a year-long dispute with the federal government. The dispute centered on Haf’s term in office, which he urged would end in 2021, from when the Islamist group Ahlu Sunnah was merged with his administration.
However, the federal government had insisted that elections must take place this years, and started courting Ahlu Sunnah itself.
Haf backed down after the government succeeded in turning the moderate Islamist group against him.
