Somali deputy minister resigns over gov’t ‘meddling’ in Galmudug

The Somali deputy minister of livestock and forestry, Abdikarim Khalif Abdi Dala’, resigned last night over “interference” by the federal government in the affairs of the central Galmudug regional state.

In a statement posted on facebook, Abdi accused the federal government of meddling in the regional state’s politics, violating the state constitution and disregarding the wishes of the people of the region.

He warned of political and security setbacks in the region should the government continue with its attempts to install an administration loyal to it.

Abdi, a parliament member, was an ally of Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheyre.

The protest resignation follows recent statements by major political parties in the country condemning the federal government’s activities in the state.
