Residents flee Somalia’s Wanlaweyn town amid fighting between rival clans

Hundreds have fled their homes following vengeful clan clashes in Wanlaweyn town of Lower Shabelle Region.

The Fresh conflict erupted a day ago, killing at least 12 people. Fear gripped residents in the town after one person was killed and the body burned to ashes.

Businesses are closed and streets are empty.

Several leaders, including parliament members and senators, as well as respected traditional elders have called for an end the fighting and urged the federal government to intervene.
