Puntland president set to hold talks on upcoming polls with South West state leader

Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni and a delegation he is leading today arrived in Baidoa, the seat of the South West State of Somalia. They were received at the Baidoa airport by the South West President Abdiasis Hassan Mohamed Laftagaren and other officials.

Deni, who spoke to reporters after his arrival, said his trip was aimed at bolstering cooperation between the two states, adding that this will not be his last trip to Baidoa.

He is expected to hold discussions on the upcoming national elections with the South West state leadership.

It is believed that Deni is trying to reach out to as many regional state leaders as possible before the elections in an attempt to gain the upper hand against President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, who is seeking a second term in office.
