One person has been killed and another injured after security forces opened fire on protesters in Bulaburte town, Hiraan Region, Somalia.
Residents in the town are protesting against an expected visit by the Hirshabelle state’s minister for internal affairs, Mohamed Ali Awad.
Awad became an unpopular figure in Bulaburte after appointing a new administration for the town. Last night, the minister appointed a new mayor, a choice that further infuriated residents.
When the protest started, residents say, security forces opened fire while African Union Mission troops in the town arrested several protesters.
