Kenyan army says kills 12 Al-Shabaab militants in Boni Forest

The Kenyan army has announced that its forces killed 12 Al-Shabaab militants on Thursday in a raid on their hideout in Boni Forest, Lamu county, southeast of the country.

“Our soldiers killed 12 Al Shabaab militants during the Thursday morning raid and captured one alive. The raid was part of the ongoing KDF [Kenya Defence Forces] operations in pursuit of AS [Al-Shabaab] militants who launched a botched attack at Kotile Special Operations Group Camp on 13th March 2020,” Coast Regional Coordinator John Elungata

Elungata added that the troops also captured one militant and recovered three AK 47 rifles, seven magazines and at over 1,000 rounds of ammunition.

“Our soldiers killed 12 Al Shabaab militants during the Thursday morning raid and captured one alive. The raid was part of the ongoing KDF operations in pursuit of AS militants who launched a botched attack at Kotile Special Operations Group Camp on 13th March 2020,” said Elungata.

The attacked camp was reportedly the last remaining base for the Al-Qaeda-linked group in Kenya which the militants were using to coordinate their activities.

Kenyan security forces have intensified their attacks against Al-Shabaab militants. A week ago, the troops reportedly killed six militants and captured one in Garissa County.
