Heavy fighting in southwest Somalia as army, Al-Shabaab clash

Heavy fighting has erupted in villages near the southwestern Somalia town of Dinsor after the Somali National Aarmy, backed by South West state security forces, targeted Al-Shabaab bases outside the town.

The clashes that lasted several hours reportedly resulted in casualties on both sides, with Somali security officials in the area claiming many Al-Shabaab fighters were killed while others were wounded in the fighting.

The exact number of casualties from the two sides is not yet known although area residents described the clashes as very heavy.
