Gunmen kill prominent elders in separate attacks in Afgoye, Kismayo

Unknown gunmen last night shot and killed a prominent traditional elder in Afgoye town in Lower Shabelle region, southern Somalia.

The elder, who was identified as Ibrahim Mohamed Ibrahim (Labane), was shot in a security checkpoint in Afgoye town. The attackers fled the scene immediately.

The slain elder was among the delegates who selected members of South West state parliament.

In another incident, gunmen shot dead Haji Said Isse (Said Addoon) who was a prominent businessman and traditional elder in the southern port of Kismayo in Jubbaland state.

Jubbaland’s security spokesman said that the security forces were conducting operations in Kismayo to find those behind the killing of Sultan Haji Said, however, no one has been arrested yet for the crime.

No group has so far claimed responsibility of both the attacks.
