Government forces, AU troops capture areas in central Somalia from Al-Shabaab

Troops from the Somali National Army (SNA), backed the Djibouti contingent of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), has taken over Luq Jelow area, 20 kilometres west of the central town of Beledweyne in Hiran region.

The capture came after Al-Shabaab launched motor shells from a camp they have there on the AMISOM troops’base in Beledweyne town.

The commander of the SNA’s 27th Division said that their forces also destroyed a checkpoint the militants were using to rob vehicles passing through the road.

Meanwhile, a joint forces of the army and the national intelligence have seized War-Holo area in El Bur district in Galgadud region, central Somalia.

The troops captures the area from Al-Shabaab in a planned operation. The militants fled from the area before the government forces arrived.

The joint forces also took over control of the villages of El God and Warar-Dhuma-leh in the region where they received a rousing welcome from the area residents.
