The Somali regional state of Galmudug has ordered security forces to tighten the security of the regional capital Dusamareb, in preparation for the third phase of the meeting between federal government and regional leaders.
The third phase of the summit, which is set to further discuss the 2020/21 electoral process, is expected to open on 15 August.
Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, Galmudug’s minister of security, directed security agencies to ensure the town and surrounding areas are safe.
The Galmudug had successfully hosted the two summits, one between leaders of the country’sf ive regional states and another between federal government and state leaders.
Following an agreement that the elections must be inclusive and held on time, the leaders had agreed to meet again on 15 August to iron out differences over the model of the election.
Minister Fiqi said he wanted to ensure the upcoming summit takes place in a secure environment.
