Galmudug police on Tuesday arrested two new Al-Shabab recruits who were travelling to Somalia’s Hiiraan region, where they were planning to join the militant Somali group Al-Shabab, an Alqaeda affiliate, police said.
According to the police, the duo identified as Jaabir Hassan Dirie iyo Yusuf Abdirisak travelled from Hargeisa, the breakaway regions of Somaliland and were heading to Luuq-Jeelow, a militant controlled village in Hiiraan region, central Somalia.
“These youth were recruited from Hargeisa and were heading to a militant training camp in Hiiraan region,” Captain Abdi Yare, Galmudug Police inspection chief said as quoted by Radio Kulmiye, “We have received their information before hand and their final destination of travel”
The police further added that Dirie and Abdirisak admitted that they were planning to join Al-Shabab, a group Somalia government listed as a terror organization.
The group, Al-Shabab have been fighting against the Somali government and the African Union Mission in Somalia in attempt to take overthrow the government.
