Four police officers killed in landmine attack in Mogadishu

At least four police officers have been killed and three others wounded after their vehicle hit a landmine at Siinka Dheer area outside the capital, Mogadishu.

Sources told SomaliAffairs that the police vehicle blew up after it hit an improvised explosive device (IED) at a junction in Siinka Dheer area.

Government security forces immediately arrived at the scene of the explosion and stopped the movement of the public vehicles.

In the past few days, the Special Police Forces have been conducting landmine search operations on the road between Mogadishu and Afgoye.

No group has claimed responsibility of the attack, but Al-Shabaab has in the past carried out bombings targeting government forces and allied troops.

Last week, an IED explosion killed well-trained officers of the Somali National Army commando forces known as Danab in Mogadishu-Afgoye road.

Government authorities have not yet commented to the matter.
