Fifteen Al-Shabaab militants killed in clashes with army in southern Somalia

The Somali National Army (SNA) and Jubbaland forces on Tuesday conducted a joint operation in the area of ​​Bandar-Jadid near the town of Afmadow.

SNA chief, General Odawa Yusuf Rage, confirmed to the media that 15 members of the Al-Shabaab militant group were killed in the operation while one was captured alive.

Gen Odawa said that the SNA troops have also carried out operations in areas between Jalalaqsi and Bulaburte towns in Hiran region where they killed a senior Al-Shabaab commander by the name Ibrahim Abdi Tur’ey and Hassan Yare, an expert in making explosive devices.

The latest loses by Al-Shabaab follows ongoing offensives by Somali forces in central and southern parts of the country in the recent weeks.

On Sunday, SNA killed nine militants and injured six others in Qoryoley town in the south of the country.
