Consultative conference for major Somali clan kicks off in Mogadishu

Former leaders of Somalia, members of parliament and politicians from the larger Mudullod clan have gathered in the capital, Mogadishu, for a three-day consultative conference during which several issues affecting the Mudullod sub-clans will be discussed.

The meeting, which was delayed several times in recent past, kicked off today and was attended by former Presidents of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and Ali Mahdi Mohamed, in addition to former Prime Minister Ali Mohamed Gedi, the governor of Banadir region, Omar Mohamud Mohamed Finish, Hirshabelle state president, government officials and members of both Houses of the Federal Parliament.

The meeting is expected to discuss major political issues and mechanisms to resolve differences among the various sub-clans of the major Mudullod clan.

The Somali Federal Government is closely watching the conference as it comes at a critical time just days after Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheyre, was ousted by parliament in a vote of no confidence.
