A CIA officer was killed in Somalia last weekend after the vehicle he was travelling in with US-trained Somali special forces was reportedly targeted by a roadside bomb planted by members of the Al-Qaeda-linked militant group, Al-Shabaab, near Baledogle airbase in south-central Somalia.
Reports indicate that the officer succumbed to wounds he sustained in the attack.
Over the weekend, Al-Shabaab claimed to have killed 12 US-trained Somali special forces and destroyed two of their vehicles in an IED attack near Baledogle airbase.
Somali media outlets reported six soldiers were killed in the roadside blasts.
