Attempt by Somali embassy in Malaysia to block politician’s speech flops

An attempt by the Somalia Embassy in Malaysia to prevent opposition leader Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame from delivering a speech to Somali students in Malaysia has failed.

A letter from the Somali embassy in Kuala Lumpur to the Malaysian Police purported that Mr Warsame was under criminal investigation in Somalia, that he has misrepresented Islam in a recent speech and that a Fatwa was issued against him over that issue.

The letter by the Somali embassy also claimed that Mr Warsame has been banned ‘from speaking in many Islamic countries’

In the letter, the embassy calls on the Malaysian Police to cancel an event where Mr Warsame was expected to address the Somali students at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur on 12th January.

Somaliaffairs has however learnt that despite the letter, the meeting went ahead and the opposition leader delivered his speech to the Somali community in Kuala Lumpur.
