Armed men kill deputy commissioner in southern Somalia grenade attack

Unknown armed men tonight killed the deputy commissioner of Wanlaweyn district in southern Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi Omar also known as Kosto.

Reports from the town indicate that Mr Omar was killed when armed men threw a grenade in his house, killing him instantly and wounding two of his family members.

Government security forces arrived at the scene and began an operation to apprehend those behind the killing.

No one knows who carried out the attack, but the Al-Qaeda-linked group, Al-Shabaab, has in the past targeted government officials with bombings and assassinations.
