Al-Shabaab fighters attack convoy of Kenyan troops in Somalia

Al-Shabaab militants yesterday attacked a convoy of Kenyan troops that left El Ram military base heading to Elwak town in Somalia.

The group claimed that burned down four Kenyan military vehicles and killed at least nine soldiers in the attack.

The Kenyan government has not yet commented on the attack, but Al-Shabaab has repeatedly attacked Kenyan troops in the past.

Al-Shabaab has carried many attacks against AU and Somali army bases in different locations in southern Somalia.

Kenya contributes more than 4,000 troops to the 22,000-strong AU force that is in Somalia to help the UN-backed government battle the Al-Qaeda-linked group, Al-Shabaab.
