Al-Shabaab fighters early on Sunday (9 June) ambushed an African Union Peacekeeping Mission (AMISOM) convoy in south-central Somalia.
Dozens of armed Al-Shabaab fighters attacked a convoy carrying Djiboutian troops near the town of Jalalaqsi in the Middle Shabelle region of south-central Somalia.
”We heard heavy gun battles that lasted for hours. All the residents were in a state of fear and shock,” a resident in Jalalaqsi was quoted as saying.
No death was reported, however, six people were reportedly injured in the clashes.
Al-Shabaab fighters claimed, through their media outlets, that they have killed several Djiboutian troops and destroyed their military trucks.
For their part, AMISOM officials are yet to comment on the incident.
Al-Shabaab frequently carries out attacks against Somali government forces and AMISOM troops in central and southern Somalia.
